SERMI certification is coming — understand how it affects you

SERMI (Security-related Repair and Maintenance Information) certification is coming to the UK, and independent workshops that access security-related vehicle data need to be prepared.

SERMI is a European framework that governs how independent operators are granted access to vehicle security data — including immobiliser codes, key programming information, and authentication tokens for secure gateway systems. Originally developed for the EU market, the UK is implementing its own equivalent framework, and the timeline for mandatory compliance is approaching.

In practical terms, this means that workshops wanting to continue accessing security-related data for programming, key learning, and component replacement on modern vehicles will need to obtain and maintain a SERMI certificate. The certification process involves identity verification, business verification, and agreement to a code of conduct governing how security data is accessed and handled.

For workshops already using Core Diagnostics' remote diagnostics service, the impact is manageable — we work with certified operators and can guide you through the process. For workshops not yet SERMI-aware, now is the time to start the process before it becomes a blocker.

Core Diagnostics is actively supporting our workshop network through the SERMI certification process. If you have questions about how SERMI affects your business or how to get certified, speak to our support team — we're here to help you stay ahead of the change.
