Remote diagnostics — essential support for BMW Secure Coding and Component Protection

Modern BMW vehicles are no longer programmed the way they were even a few years ago. The introduction of Secure Coding and Component Protection across the BMW and MINI range has fundamentally changed how replacement parts are installed and how software updates are applied.

Secure Coding requires that any new or replacement BMW module is coded using an authorised Secure Coding token. Without this, the module will remain in a locked state, refusing to communicate with other systems. Component Protection is a separate layer: it ties safety-critical components to the vehicle's VIN at the factory level, and removing or transferring that protection requires authorised remote access to BMW's backend systems.

For independent workshops, this used to mean one thing: sending the vehicle to a BMW main dealer. That's expensive, time-consuming, and often causes friction with customers who prefer to use an independent. With the right remote diagnostics support, however, independents can handle these jobs in-house.

Core Diagnostics provides remote support for BMW Secure Coding and Component Protection removal via the Cloud Link Pro. Our specialists are accredited and have direct access to the systems needed to authenticate and complete these jobs. The workshop connects, we take over, the job is done — typically in under 30 minutes.

If your workshop has been declining BMW programming work, or sending it out to a dealer, contact us to find out how we can help you keep those jobs in-house.
